It’s National Friendship Day! And many countries all over the world use this day as a way of encouraging people to connect with old friends and even reach out to make new ones.
From the very beginning, friendship becomes an important factor in our lives, constantly evolving and giving us new meanings throughout the years. So, whether they’re school friends, neighbours or colleagues – what better timing than now to show your love and appreciation for someone very close to you.
Here at Clintons we’ve compiled a list of different ways you can celebrate your friends and show them just how special they are.
Sending a Card
It may sound obvious, but the act of kindness from sending a card really can brighten up someone’s day. Reach out to a friend and let them know you are thinking of them. Find a card with the perfect message written inside – whether it’s a nice compliment or a funny joke, Clintons will have the card you’re looking for!
Your own personal message inside could list reasons why they’re such a good friend or describing a favourite memory you’ve shared together. Don’t worry if you’re stuck for words, your message doesn’t have to be a lengthy poem. Just a simple “saw this card and thought of you” can still have the same effect and is sure to leave your friends smiling.
Give Them a Friendship Bracelet
Sounds too cliché? Not at all! Little token gifts such as these make for wonderful everyday gifts, and gifting a friendship bracelet on national friendship day will make its meaning even more special! The symbol of a friendship bracelet, whether handmade or store-bought shows how much you value your friend (and tradition states that if a wish is made when worn, once the bracelet frays, the wish will come true!)
Send Them a Photograph
There’s nothing quite like the feeling of nostalgia, especially with a life-long friend. Find a photo that captures just how special your friendship is to that person. Whether it’s a time that made you laugh, cry or both! This little gift will spark all the right emotions and have you both laughing and reminiscing about all the good times you’ve shared and will remind you both how lucky you are to have had each other through the years.
Gift Them Flowers or a Plant
“Friendship is to people what sunshine is to flowers”
We all know the importance of maintaining relationships which is why the simple act of sending flowers is more than just a thoughtful gesture. Why not add a little sunshine to their day by giving them a bouquet or single-stemmed flower in a vase? Choose colours and flowers that symbolise friendship and happiness such as yellow roses, sunflowers and alstroemeria – don’t forget to add a little message to let them know how much you care.
A Phone Call
Even without all of the gifts and messages, sometimes a phone call to catch up is all you need to let them know you still value them. Just checking in with them could lead to hours of overdue conversation, sharing gossip, discussing any achievements and everything in between. Don’t be shy to make future plans – whether that’s an ‘adventure day out’ or a little coffee date, all it takes is a simple phone call to keep the bonds of friendship alive and strong.
Happy Friendship Day from Clintons!
However you choose to celebrate your friendships, make sure you acknowledge the day itself. With each new friend we meet, we increase our sense of belonging and purpose. Our experiences become a little richer, the world a little smaller and everything else feels more wholesome and connected.
